Rumour : Wanye Rooney determined to see out contract at Old Trafford
Manchester United and England captain, Wayne Rooney, is determined to see out his contract
at Manchester United despite losing his place in the first team. The England
captain, 31, has a contract at Old Trafford until 2019 and reportedly
believes he can continue to perform for United until then, despite announcing
that he will retire from international football after the 2018 World Cup. Rooney
has not started a Premier League match since September 18 — a 3-1 defeat at
Watford —
and he has scored just twice all season, including a brilliant
consolation goal in Thursday's 2-1 loss at Fenerbahce in the Europa League. Reports
have suggested that United boss Jose Mourinho is open to selling Rooney, and he
has been linked with a return to boyhood club Everton, but the forward is said
to be confident he will win back his place under the Portuguese. Rooney earns a
reported 260,000 pounds-a-week at United ($325K), meaning few European clubs
could afford him, but he reportedly has no interest in a lucrative move to
Major League Soccer in the US or China.
